The Challenge

Corby, Wellingborough & East Northants Borough Councils approached Premier Partnership requiring a managed service for training in late 2019 and booked training through to mid-April 2020. In early 2020, no one could have predicted the size and scale of disruption that COVID-19 was about to have across the globe. Countries, societies, and businesses changed forever as lives and livelihoods were lost and we scrambled to cope with the rate and pace of change the pandemic threw at us.

In mid – late March as the first national lockdown approached, classroom training stopped and plans for staff development came to a halt. The client needed Premier to manage the disruption and to subsequently provide solutions to overcome the challenges of staff missing out on key training.

The Solution

Premier Partnership’s account team acted quickly to react to the challenges presented by the advancing pandemic. As a benefit of procuring a managed service, Premier were able to cancel or postpone training that was due to take place in the coming weeks, with no expense passed on to the client.

Premier Partnership stepped in with their knowledge and expertise and developed bespoke online learning solutions to provide virtual options for the client to run the courses that were previously due to take place in the classroom. A programme of virtual courses was subsequently made available to Corby, Wellingborough & East Northants Borough Councils. This included training staff in topics such as change management, personal wellness, career transition support and core skills.

The Outcome

As the Councils partner with Premier using the ESPO procurement framework, they incurred no cost from cancellation fees, despite being within standard cancellation fee terms time frame. This saved the client over £7,000.

Corby, Wellingborough & East Northants and Premier worked in collaboration to ensure that the second half of the training year was not as detrimental to their staffs’ development as the first. The client was able to implement a highly impactful revised training plan worth over £10,000 to benefit over 840 members of staff.

Louise McIlreavy, Training Officer for Corby, Wellingborough & East Northants Shared HR Service, stated the following:

‘In this current climate I want to thank Premier Partnership for the professional, efficient managed training service delivered to us.  Throughout our relationship nothing has been too much trouble.  We constantly see over 30% improvement in the skills, knowledge and confidence post-training in our staff.  We have certainly developed a great Partnership. Well Done guys!’
